About Us

Our all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization is dedicated to adoption and rescue of these sweet and majestic souls. We are located in Ithaca, NY. Gorges Greyhounds serves Ithaca, the Fingerlakes region, central New York, and northeastern Pennsylvania.

Allison, our president and founder, has been deeply involved in Greyhound causes for more than twenty years. She started her first group (Racing Dog Rescue Project) in Florida in the early '90s, and that group and its dedicated volunteers continue run a successful and thriving operation. Allison brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to all aspects of Greyhound care, behavior, and evaluation. She has also been involved in (positively-based) dog training classes, and was "on call" with several SPCAs, fostering dogs with behaviors that made them less than attractive adoptees.

Adoption of Greyhounds is one of our primary activities. However, Gorges Greyhounds is also very devoted to facilitating other groups' activities. We look forward to assisting Greyhound groups throughout (mainly) upstate New York.

Gorges Greyhounds is a state-certified not-for-profit. Our 501(c)(3) status is pending.
